  • Tratta da "Publius Terencius Comoediae (comédies de Térence)", quest'opera è situata nella Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal (1400-1500 ). Essa è stata tradotta da Lemonnier e preceduta da un saggio sulla commedia latina e in particolare su Térence.
Térence, famoso commediografo dell'epoca della Repubblica romana, è originale per la sua cura per gli intrecci, più coerenti e meno complessi rispetto a quelli delle commedie plautine, ma anche più coinvolgenti. Particolarmente importante in Terenzio è anche il messaggio morale sotteso a tutta la sua opera, volta a sottolineare la sua humanitas, cioè il rispetto che ha nei confronti di ogni altro essere umano, nella consapevolezza dei limiti di ciascuno, ben sintetizzato dalla sua frase più famosa: "Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto", «Sono un uomo: nulla che sia umano mi è estraneo.»

Térence, a famous playwright of the age of the Roman Republic, is original for his care for the intertwines, more coherent and less complex than the Plautine comedies, but also more involving. Particularly important in Térence is also the tacit moral message of his work, which wants to underline his humanitas, so the respect towards every other human being, being aware of the limits of everyone, well summarized in his most famous quotation: "Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto", «I am human, and nothing of that which is human is alien to me.»
