Mountain Top
On December 11, the world celebrates International Mountain Day! This year marks the 15th anniversary of the event, which was officially established by the UN General Assembly in 2003.
The importance of mountains lies not only their incredible beauty and suggestive scenery: above all else, they are rich in freshwater, renewable energy, and plant and animal life - resources that are increasingly crucial nowadays. Mountains, however, are also extremely vulnerable to climate change and deforestation. International Mountain Day was thus created in order to bring light to the significance of mountains to the world iteself.
