Saint Francis
October 4 is the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, one of the most beloved saints of all time and - among many more - patron saint of animals, the environment, Italy, the city of San Francisco, California, and the state of Colorado.
Francis is most known for his love for Nature - believing it to be the clearest sign of God's love and his greatest gift: in his Canticle of the Sun, in fact, Francis gives thanks for the Creation as a whole and invokes the need for harmony between Man and Nature in order to reach God himself - an importance the environment had never had before in Christianity. In the year of the "Ecological Awakening" and Fridays for Future, it is a nice coincidence that his feast day happened to fall on a Friday!
Happy St. Francis' day!
