World Environment Day
June 5 is World Environment Day, the annual celebration created by the United Nations in order to highlight the vital importance of environmental protection and the themes dealing with such issues - from pollution to deforestation. Although officially established in 1972 during the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, the first WED was actually held in 1974; this year's theme, "Beat Plastic Pollution", thereby marks the 45th edition of WED.
