SPIONAGGIO AMOROSO

Cabinet des Manuscrits, Pays-Bas méridionaux (Lille), fra il 1450 e il 1467. - Ispirato al Roman de la Violette scritto all’inizio del XIII secolo da Gerbert de Montreuil, il Roman de Gérard de Nevers presenta l’idillio fra il nobile cavaliere Gérard de Nevers e la bella Euryant; una storia d’amore conclusa male a causa di un rivale, Liziart, conte di Forest. L’autore di questa prosa sarebbe Jean, illegittimo di Wavrin (1349-1471), diplomatico e consigliere di Philippe le Bon, a cui si deve anche una Chronique d’Angleterre. Copiato su carta, il manoscritto è composto da più di cinquanta illustrazioni eseguite a inchiostro e acquarello. Molto espressivi, talvolta simili a caricature ma molto narrativi, questi disegni sono simbolo evidente delle miniature praticate a quell’epoca. Le si attribuisce a una miniaturista anonimo, nominato dal suo principale patrocinante, il Maître de Wavrin. - Inspired to the Roman de la Violette, written at the beginning of the XIII century by Gerbert de Montreuil, the Roman de Gérard de Nevers represents the idyll between the noble knight Gérard de Nevers and the beautiful Euryant; a love story bad ended because of a rival, Liziart, count of Forest. The author of this poem is Jean, illegittimate of Wavrin (1349-1471), a diplomat and counselor of Philippe le Bon, who made the Chronique d’Angleterre. Copied on paper, the manuscript is composed by more than fifty illustrations made with ink and watercolor. These drawings, very expressive, sometimes similar to caricatures but very narrative, are the symbol of the miniature practiced during that age. It is supposed that they were made by an anonym miniaturist, nominated by his principal counsel, the Maître de Wavrin.
